Alcohol Inks

When I moved to North Carolina in 2008, I continued my work with watercolors. However, as my hands began to shake, these were difficult for me. And so I took an alcohol ink class with Karen Walker. I found these allowed me to be spontaneous.

I used a blow dryer to create what I called Bursts. My colors were bright and I enjoyed learning how I could use these inks in different ways, while still allowing the inks to “do their own thing.”

I also took classes with June Rollins and later with Alexis Bonavitacola. It was with Alexis that I learned to use compressed air.

In 2020 I used all these methods, and I began to add mixed media into the alcohol inks. And I used alcohol inks in some of my mixed media.

I learned a lot from doing inks. I learned to be myself.

When I painted this originally I thought it was a flower. But the more I looked at it and turned it around and around, I thought perhaps it was hearing something. Part of the texture is made from texture paste and sand.
